Do-Now: Look at the "SAT Essay Scoring Guidelines" sheet that has been placed in your folder along with your practice SAT essay.  Based on these guidelines, what score do you believe your essay would receive?  Explain.

Today: 1) Review the "SAT Essay Scoring Guidelines."

2) Discuss how to write a strong essay in a 25-minute time frame.

3) Begin revising your SAT essay.

Objective: SWBAT finish correcting and reviewing Writing Section 4 of the May 2012 SAT.  SWBAT brainstorm and begin writing a rough draft of an SAT essay.

Do-Now: Read the essay topic that was given to you and respond to the question: Can knowledge be a burden rather than a benefit?  Give at least one example in your response.

Today: 1) Finish reviewing Writing Section 4

2) Introduction to the SAT Essay

3) Begin brainstorming and writing a rough draft for your first SAT essay

Do-Now: Use the strategies discussed last week to complete the following Sentence Completion questions:

Do-Now: Describe the strategies you used on Tuesday for completing the fill-in-the blank sentences on Section 2.  If you weren't here Tuesday, describe the strategies you use for completing fill-in-the-blank questions on vocabulary tests.

Today: 1) Strategies for Sentence Completion on the SAT:

A) Fill in the BLANK with your own word.

B) Decide if the BLANK is a positive or negative word.

C) Look for a definition of the BLANK in the sentence.

D) Use logic to fill in the BLANK.

E) For TWO BLANK sentences, use context clues to determine the relationship between the BLANKS.


2) Review and correct Sentence Completion questions from Section 2.

Exit Slip: Choose ONE of the Sentence Completion strategies you learned today and describe how to use it on the SAT.
